Thank you April

April who underwent liposuction in January 2007 has kindly allowed me to post her pre and post liposuction pictures on my blog. Her results are dramatic and one of the best results I have seen. It shows what excellent results one could get if the procedure is done by the right plastic surgeon. Her photos are posted below.

On January 11, 2007 I had Wet Tumescent Liposuction done on my Upper and Lower Abdomen and my hips or flanks. I had 4350cc removed from the above areas.

I was 54 at the time of surgery. It was a lifechanging experience for the good. I would recommend it to those that seriously want changes for the right reasons. Recovery can be longer for some but so worth it.

April.

26th August 2007

Its been 2 months since my revision and I am very happy with my results. Unfortunately at my gynae visit last weeks I was told that I now am going through menopause and everyone I talk to tells me of the weight they have gained once reaching menopause (this weight being mostly around the mid section) I am now dreading this and am going to have to start watching what I eat and exercising more. After having to go through lipo I definitely do not want to look as I did pre lipo. He told me that when a female stops producing oestrogen during menopause that our shape changes from a pear shape to an apple shape and lots of weight gets put on around the waist, but that this could possibly be prevented by taking HRT. He explained the pros and cons and I decided to try it for a while and see how it goes. I should actually start taking pics every couple of months and posting it here in order to see if any change takes place in my body shape.

7 weeks post op

Its been 7 weeks since my revision and I am totally thrilled with my results. My stomach looks much flatter now. I think I am starting menopause as I have been having night sweats occasionally and have cravings for chocolate so have not been very good as I cannot control myself and have been munching away at the choccies. I still look good, but I am worried that I might just start putting on weight which I definitely do not want to do. Many of my friends have ended up putting on quite a lot of weight on their middle when going through menopause so I have to really be careful now. Will be putting up some new pics soon.

One day post revision

Once the local anaesthetic wore off last night, my abdomen hurt and it also hurt to turn from side to side in bed. I thought it would not really be uncomfortable as my previous lipo as not much was taken out, however I was wrong. The upside though is that unlike the previous time I was able to take my child to school and though my stomach hurts somewhat I guess its not as bad as the time before. I had forgotten how dreadful the pressure garment was and as it was a little big for me, I am wearing a binder over it around the lipo'd area and when I woke up this morning I had backache. I really dislike wearing it, but maybe this time (seeing its a revision and most probably the last of this area) I will wear it day and night for the full prescribed time. Not looking forward to it though.

Revision done

The circled area is where there was an indentation.

I am now 5 hours post revision. Just before leaving for the procedure I intended to take pre-op pics only to find that my camera battery was flat, so will have to rely on pics my ps had taken at my pre-revision consultation. I will be seeing him on Monday just before he goes on holiday and I hope he will be able to mail my pics to me before he leaves.

My old garment is not very tight on me so I had to change when I got home to one that had been taken in a bit and also put on a binder on top of the lipo'd area.
I was quite nervous as I did not want to be sedated. He gave me a bit of meds to calm me and then proceeded with the lipo. Most of the areas were okay, just a tugging of pulling feeling, however some spots hurt especially when it felt like he was touching a rib. It was uncomfortable in places, but I am happy that I had it under local only. I went in by taxi and intended to take a taxi home, but after the procedure (must have taken about 1 and a half hours) popped across the road to have something to eat with my son (he bunked school to accompany me) and then decided to walk 2 blocks to look for a taxi instead of calling and being made to wait for them to come. When we reached a main road, a minibus (something between a normal bus and a private taxi) stopped so I decided that we might as well use it. It was about a 10 minutes ride and then just had to walk up a hill to my home.

I could definitely not have done that if I had used sedation.

My camera battery was charged when I arrived home, so took some post op pics. It looks quite swollen and large. The circled area was where I had a indentation and my ps took out a little fat above and below the indentation. He lipo'd my tummy a bit as well.

Revision Day

I have two hours to go before I have to be at my doctors rooms for my revision. This time I have asked him to do it under local anaesthetic only. I am a bit nervous, but I usually tolerate pain quite well so just cant wait for it to be over. I have had a bad flu up until about 3 weeks ago. It lingered on for about 6 weeks, so am a bit run down and have been craving chocolates so for the past 2 weeks even though I know I should not I have had chocolate in some form or the other daily. After today I have to control myself as I have not been to gym as well in more than 2 months so need to get my act together. Fortunately I have not put on any weight according to the scale, but just because it does not show does not mean that its not on its way to where I don't need it.

Just before going in will take some pics and post it later and will track my progress again post op.

I will be seeing my ps tomorrow for a pre-revision visit. The revision is booked for the 21st June and I am hoping to have the revision done under local anaesthetic only. Will start posting updates again from tomorrow.

3 months post op

I have been for my 3 month post op appointment and although my results are awesome, I had some questions about my lower abdomen and my right hip. The right hip seems to have a small indent and I asked my ps about this and he said he could see what I mean and that he could do a small revision on my right flank which should sort out the area I mentioned. I also asked about my lower stomach. I have an appendectomy scar on my side and the area around this scar was puffy and raised before I had the liposuction and he said he would try and see if he could lessen this, but post lipo its still slightly puffy and also I wondered whether a tiny bit more could be taken off my lower abs. He examined me and said that due to me having several kids, my skin is a little stretched and also he said there is only very little fat on my stomach now and he could try and see if he could take a little more out when he does the revision, but said he would not expect to get very much out. He looked to see whether I had a caesarean as I think he might have suggested a tummy tuck but I immediately said that I do not have any other scars and I do not want those huge scars I have seen with a tt. Also I could not afford a tt either way, so what cannot be improved with lipo I can live with. He said to me that I have a very good body but as we all know others might think it fine, but we see our flaws more than others do.Even if there is not much more improvement after the revision, I will still be happy as my results are very good. When I have the revision done he waives his fee and I would just need to pay for facilities and whatever he uses for the procedure.

10 weeks post lipo

Its now 10 weeks post lipo. The lump on my left hand hip has disappeared and the ropey lumps running down the right hand side waist are much smaller but still there. I still have healing to do so I think the waist is just taking a while longer to disappear. From time to time I get very itchy on the lipo'd areas and sometimes I feel more bloated and a tiny bit swollen after exercise. When running I still have discomfort on my flanks from the jarring so I rather cycle and walk on the treadmill in the gym. I have been told it takes at least 6 months to heal properly and although I feel completely healed, I suppose the discomfort when running shows that certain areas will take a while longer to be 100% healed.
